Not your average walk in the park

For many women, walking in heels is a normal part of their day, but on September 20 they can give their feet a break. The YWCA's annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraising event will see men strapping on a pair of dazzling heels to raise money in support of women and children who have experienced domestic violence.

Walk a Mile in her Shoes gives the men in our community the opportunity to take a stand against domestic violence and let the public know that it is not just a women's issue, but a community issue.

This year a webpage has been set up for the event to assist fundraisers in collecting sponsorships. The webpage can be found at

Men register to participate, fundraise to reach their recommended goal and then, on event day, challenge themselves to "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes." They will literally strap on a pair of high heeled shoes (provided by the YWCA) and walk a specified distance around Galt Gardens in support of their local YWCA. Celebrities, elected officials and men from all walks of life take a stand and help fundraise and increase awareness about social issues in our communities that are addressed by the YWCAs of Alberta.

All the proceeds from this event go to support women and children who have experienced domestic violence.
