Join us in celebrating Medicine Hat's Great (BIG) Trail. Connecting the trail and Country in a national celebration August 26, 2017.

A community celebration at Strathcona Island Park Trans Canada Trail Marker Pavillion kicks off at 11am for food truck, watermelon... and as always - coffee.

Here are a few ways people might arrive at the event:


- Volkssport Club

--Volkssport Club of Medicine Hat (Walking Club) will host a walk starting at 10:30 AM from the front steps of the Arena.  The walk will go along the South Saskatchewan River to the Trans Canada Trail Marker in Strathcona Park.  After attending the event in the park the walkers will depart at 12:30pm to return to the Arena going along the Berm, in total this will be a 5 km walk. - Instagram Photo Walk

-- Walk through Medicine Hat with a photographer as you spot some beautiful natural scenes and many artsy murals. Learn some tips and find some new favourite photo spots! Walk will start at 9:30am and end in Strathcona Island Park around 11AM. Call 403-527-6422 for more information.


- Coffee Tour

-- No visit to Medicine Hat would be complete without a bona fide coffee crawl. As you explore our beautiful city and all it has to offer, take time to indulge in a progressive tour of some out of our six independent coffee shops, each with its own personality and specialties of the house and all within walking distance of each other in our historic city centre. Chat with a barista as they create cappuccino and latte art or draw you the perfect shot of expresso from locally roasted beans. Travelling from café to café you will feel the rich local culture of the sunniest city in Canada. Dive into our coffee culture and discover what makes each café worth a return trip during your stay. Gas City Roller Derby Association

-- Gas City Roller Derby will be hosting a trail skate at 10AM from the Trans Canada Trail Pavilion in Strathcona Island Park. They will stake towards Sholton Hill, and then skate back toward the Pavilion. All skaters welcome for this fun ride. Police Point Park - Berm Walk

--This treetop level trail provides interesting birds' eye views of Lions and Strathcona Island Parks. Join us on this morning stroll with naturalist Marty Drut from the Interpretive Program in Police Point Park. Meet at the berm access behind the Arena. The walk will start at 10:00 a.m. and arrive at the celebration at 11:00.  Approximately 2km long, the walk will be on paved trail.  For more information, phone our Nature Line (403) 529-6225 or check out our website at www.natureline.info.  We also are on Facebook and Twitter – policepointpark.

 

AR+ Walk

AR+walk is an interactive and engaging digital exhibition. You will use your phone to explore downtown Medicine Hat. By scanning signs, architecture and other details you will find hidden animations, videos, and digital images that are embedded in the urban environment. This walk will start at 1PM from Strathcona Island Park.

Walk with the Mayor

Join Medicine Hat Mayor Ted Clugston on a wonderful walk from the Downtown YMCA Parking lot along the winding trails in Strathcona Island Park to the Trans Canada Trail Pavilion near Lovell McDonnell Baseball Field. This walk will start at 10:30am and will arrive at the event around 11:15am.
